What is Gort?...
Gort is a robot, a programme, that continually searches the Internet for web sites that
correspond to the specific instructions programmed into its robotic brain...
In this particular case the robot has been programmed to search for rock and gem sites...
What you can see of the our online rockhound database (above) at the present moment,
is the first beta test of Gort ability..
Gort was Programmed to retrive 500 websites...
As this test has proved successful....
The robot is now operational and is in search and retrive mode...
Attention all rockhound website owners and merchants.
What Gort searches for!
When Gort first arrives at a website it asks for the robot.txt document
that should be in the root folder of your website...
Alas there are not a lot of them...
In fact its a total mess...Rubbish......
Gort processed 14,000 urls
all rockhound related in order to retrive 500 sites ..
Only 1 site in 28 was
selected...
Now do not misunderstand me the title "rubbish" has nothing to do with the website
It has to do with what the robot can see, observations through "spiders eyes".
Do not imagine that Gort is some sort of invisible spider scuttlin around the Internet
bringing back information...O no!
Gort is a "spider with a video camera"
Everything Gort can see is visible on the computer monitor in front of you...You can read the robot.txt...See the links that are being counted...You can watch as Gort opens a linkless page, or a void were the robot text should be, then backs out, throwing the link into the trash can ...While you think "Hey! whats the matter with that site...*Rocky Racoons Gem and mineral super store* sounds like a good rockhound site to me!!!...And Gort responds with "NEXT"!
So if you want to gain visibility on the world wide web... Be indexed by robots and spiders... Increase your traffic flow! You need to be kind to robots and feed them what they need to index your site...How to do this?....
