www.rockhoundstation1.com (RHS1 hereafter) is a totally new concept in rock, gem, and treasure hunting sites. As the community of "rockhounds" grows, so do the needs and wants of clubs and individuals. RHS1 has been developed to fill these wants and needs. We are using cutting edge web technology available for the first time in history to do so.
RHS1
Has been designed to be the first completely interactive website serving the rockhounding community. It is designed by Robert Velare of France, France's premiere internet marketer and one of the worlds leading web designers.
Our technician John Foutz of USA, a world leader in website technology and security.
I (Sally Taylor, USA) am the director of the site and claim twenty years of a severe rockhounding obsession, along with a background in tourism and writing. I must be a salesperson, too, as I have been able to show my computer geek partners how interesting gem and treasure hunting really is.
SITE FEATURES:
Gazette:
The gazette is a blog site where RHS1 members can post general articles, news about events and local clubs, relevant items for sale or wanted, any other relevant data. Many local clubs have no websites, and are not set up in a fashion that makes it feasible for a club site to be maintained. RHS1 will allow clubs to post important news for their members and communities around the world to easily access. It also will give individual rockhounds an unprecedented ability to communicate globally. It is open for visitors to view but only members may post.
When a member makes a new post it is instantly sent to 56
distribution centers all over the planet ...It is then syndicated to
thousands and thousands of website's worldwide. Google is informed at
the same moment that a new post is available and sends a robot to read
it for indexing...All of this in seconds.
The Gazette can also be read from certain mobile telephones capable of connecting to the Internet.
Forums:
The forums will allow rockhounds to communicate with each other, share ideas, exchange information, and make friends. This is a monumentally important feature for the fact that rockhounds are frequent travelers, and will appreciate the ability to communicate with members familiar with destinations, saving many frustrating hours or days of searching for sites, guessing terrains, and allowing them inside information about sites not designated in guides or on maps. These are private to members only.
As it is the global forum the Rockhound forum is available in 55 different languages.
Photo Gallery:
Currently there is no place for an individual or clubs without websites to display their pictures of collection specimens or field shots. The gallery will give experienced hunters the privilege of showing the world their prized finds, and will allow beginners to study them as aides in learning to identify minerals. This is open to visitors to view, but only members may post.
Our Gallery is available in 40 different languages at the click of a mouse button.
Geology Center:
This is a place where rockhounds can find any information on gems and minerals that they may need. It consists of twenty-five pages with 2,000 links to further information. It is the most complete resource of its kind on the Internet. It is open to visitors and members. This too is available in many languages.
World News Center:
Features a running feed of all the news from around the world in the original language of the newsgroups. Ten languages are represented in the news center. It is open to visitors and members.
Site Merchants:
Site Merchants: RHS1 has partnered with merchants of products relevant to the needs and interests of the rockhound. We will be adding merchant partners as we find suitable product lines. Visitors are able to purchase from our merchants, but only members receive the discounts and rebates. Are you a merchant who would like to sell your wares on our site? A member with need for a website for non-commercial reasons? We now have storefronts available. Each store will have shopping cart capability, payment processing, tracking features, CVS capabilities - anything and everything you need to set up shop. You can use your own domain and design your store to your own liking --nothing to learn and full set-up support available. For commercial sites, your costs are only a slight commission on sales - no other fees - this means you are paying only when you are making money, and then it is inexpensive. Discount Travel Center:
RHS1 has partnered with Travel Now to provide a co-branded travel center for the purchase of discounted airfare, hotel, rental car, vacation packages, etc. Visitors and members may both use this service.
Action Center:
This center promotes the RHS1 charities. 5% of all RHS1 intake goes to support causes for animals and environment. Visitors and members have the opportunity to save animals and land by clicking, or by donating money to these causes. We support The Rain forest Site (The Nature Conservancy, Rain Forest Conservation Fund), The Ecology Fund, The International Fund for Animal Welfare, The Animal Rescue Site ( North Shore Animal League America, Fund for Animals ). We hope that visitors and members will both support these causes.
Commercial Center - new

Do you have a club or information you would like to share with the world, but don't know how to set up a site, can't afford to set up your own site, or have no real way to maintain a site? No need to have products to sell to get a full functioning webpage on RHS1. Check the forum announcements to find out how you can rent your own webpage on RHS1. You must be an RHS1 member to rent a non-commercial web page.
Future Features:
RHS1 will continue to add partner merchants, sponsors, and programs as deemed useful and necessary to better serve our growing community of members and viewers.
ABOUT ROCK CLUBS
Events
While much of the daily business of the site exists as an online entity, as the site description outlined, there will be real world events as well. RHS1 will be visiting and reporting on local club's events, dig sites and owners, rock shops, etc. We will also be sponsoring local club's events at various locations to promote membership and the rockhounding community in general. RHS1 plans also to hold it's own real-world shows and events at varied locations as well.
Awards
There is only one thing rock and treasure hounds like as much as making and showing of spectacular finds, and that is receiving awards for them. RHS1 will be giving awards, and prizes, for all types of reasons. We will have awards, trophies, for best find, best photo collection, most valuable member, most money raised for a cause, first to reach a number of posts in the forum, best of show - for real world events, rockhound of the year - determined by write in nominations, most outlandish hunting adventure, funniest error in a post, and so on - you name it. Some awards will be gifts, such as books or equipment, and some will be trophies, ribbons, or plaques. The awards for online activities will be shipped via mail.
Other awards will be announced and issued in person, at live RHS1 events and live award shows, Live award shows will include qualified judges from regional, national, or international clubs, museums and acclaimed experts of the field. We feel that such awards will be of great interaction incentive for our members and the rockhounding and treasure hunting community in general.
THE FUTURE OF RHS1
As an interactive endeavor, RHS1 will remain dynamic, with new programs being added to meet changing needs and wishes of the members. We hope to be able to add low cost group insurances as the club grows, and rental of site "real estate" is also a possiblity. As online services develop, real world events will also be in the formation. We look forward to being the world's foremost rock and treasure hunting resource.
